I’ve been enjoying Slitherlink puzzles lately, and thinking about publishing some variations. Below is a Slitherlink puzzle on a Hexagonal grid I made recently. This tiling makes it more complex in some ways, and easier in others. More importantly, from my point of view, it’s round. Always a good thing in my book. Click the […]

Slitherlink is an addictive logic puzzle that was first published by Nikoli in Japan. The puzzle consists of a grid of dots, with some clue cells containing numbers. You connect horizontally or vertically adjacent dots to form a meandering path that forms a single loop or “Slitherlink.” The loop must not have any branches and […]

I’m working on some new puzzles and thought I’d give you a preview… For the kids, I’m adding a new collection of mazes in a variety of animal shapes, such as this elephant. For the non-kids, I’m adding some new logic puzzles, based on my favorites from Nikoli, the Japanese publisher that popularized Sudoku. One […]

I was alerted to this group via Laughing Squid. Faces in Places is an awesome flickr group that collects photosgraphs of those serendipitous faces that pop out at you from the world of inanimate objects. I made a mosaic of all the images in the group, shown above. You can play with the interactive version […]

There are lots of websites that contain collections of crop circles, and I’ve been using a handful of them. Crop Circle Connector is a community-oriented site which contains an individual page or two for most recent circles. Visitors to the site can file “field reports”, so the site is full of anecdotal information. These anecdotes […]

If you read this blog regularly, you know that a lot of the things I make involve circles. My fascination with circles and radial symmetry has extended to kaleidoscopes, fibonacci spirals, music, card tricks, spinning wheels of lunch, and so on. You may also know that I am prone to develop short term obsessions, which […]

My latest project for my employer (Yahoo! Music) was pleasantly unexpected on a number of levels. It’s an application for Facebook, called Yahoo! Music Videos. If you’re on Facebook, check it out!. If you’re not on Facebook, check out Facebook! It’s kind of like MySpace, but not as ugly. UPDATE: The first two reviews for […]

I’ll be giving a free lecture on the “Creative Use of Flash” at Yahoo! in Santa Monica, on Wednesday, May 23rd. You can get the full event details here. This is the first installment of a “Creative Talks” lecture series that is being put together by Yahoo! creatives Jeff Hurlow and Jens Jonason. I haven’t […]

A Flash-8 kaleidoscope I’ve been making today. Click to play with it (requires the Flash 8 plug-in). The raster graphics added in Flash 8 enable larger and better performance kaleidoscopic effects than in prior versions. I’m finally able to achieve effects that formerly required graphics acceleration, such as C++/OpenGL. I facetiously numbered this 842. Actually […]
